What is Multi-car breakdown cover?

Multi-car breakdown cover lets you cover more than one vehicle at a time, as long as they’re registered at the same address.

With Multi-car cover, drivers can include up to four different cars, EVs, vans, motorbikes or motorhomes, at once. They’ll all be covered with Green Flag, no matter who’s driving them.

What is Family breakdown cover?

Family breakdown cover lets you cover up to three additional members of your household when you’re driving (or travelling) in any car, van, motorbike or motorhome which is under 16 years old and privately registered in the UK.

Any time of day or night, if you break down over a 1/4 of a mile from home, we’ll be there to help.

Local recovery

If we can’t fix your vehicle at the roadside, we’ll take you to a nearby garage.

Unlimited call-outs

There are no call-out limits with Green Flag. You may be charged for a repeat problem within 28 days.

Cover at home

If you break down at or near your home, we’ll be there to help.

National recovery

If your problem can’t be fixed locally, we can take you, your car, and any passengers to a UK destination you choose.

Onward travel

We can help arrange a hire car, alternative transport, or a hotel should you need it.

What’s the difference between Multi-car and Family breakdown cover?

Multi-car breakdown cover covers multiple vehicles at the same address. So, if you’ve got a work car and a runaround, or a car and a motorbike, you can get them all covered on the same policy.

Family breakdown cover, on the other hand, refers to a policy that allows several people to be covered on one policy (provided they all live at the same address). This can include partners, housemates, and family members. Vehicles must be under 16 years old and privately registered in the UK.

Is Multi-car breakdown cover or Family breakdown cover cheaper than having separate policies?

Combined policies can be more convenient, but the cost depends on:

The number of vehicles covered
The level of cover chosen
Who’s named on the policy
Individual circumstances

Multi-car breakdown cover allows you to cover multiple vehicles from the same household under a single policy.

Family breakdown cover allows you to cover multiple members of the same household under a single policy.

If I’m not the driver, will the vehicle still be covered by my Multi-car breakdown policy?

Yes, if you have cover with Green Flag, any vehicle listed on your policy will be covered regardless of who’s driving. This means we can help if your vehicle breaks down, even when you’re not in it.

Do we need to live together to have a Family breakdown cover policy?

Yes. Green Flag’s Family cover is designed to cover individuals who share an address. You can get cover for up to four members of a household, all on the same policy.

Am I covered in a different vehicle?

If you have Multi-car cover, any vehicle listed on your policy is covered. To be covered in any vehicle, you’ll need Green Flag’s Personal cover. With this, you’re covered in any vehicle that’s under 16 years old and privately registered in the UK.

With our Family cover, every person on your policy will get Personal cover.

How many times can I claim on my Multi-car or Family cover?

We offer unlimited call-outs for both Multi-car breakdown cover and Family cover, so you can get in touch as often as you need to. Please note, you may be charged if you call us out for a repeat problem within 28 days.

Can I have two breakdown cover policies for the same vehicle?

While it is technically possible to have multiple breakdown cover policies for the same vehicle, it’s not recommended. Not only could it cause unnecessary confusion, but it could also cost you more money.

We recommend finding the best breakdown cover type for you and your vehicle, and just sticking with that one policy. That way, you won’t pay more than you need to.
