Police have begun a search for thieves who stole a classic car identical to the one driven by TV detective Inspector Morse

Police have appealed for information following the theft of a classic car, similar to the one driven by TV detective Inspector Morse, in Devon.

Police have launched a search for thieves, who stole the maroon-coloured Mark II Jaguar from a farm in Buckfastleigh, near Totnes, Devon, between August 21 and 28.

The Jaguar, registration DKL 810C, was parked in a barn but thieves broke into the building and pushed the car down a lane to the road, where a recovery vehicle was waiting, according to Devon & Cornwall Police.

A spokesman from the force said the Jaguar was then taken to the Kingsteignton area, and it has not been seen since.

He said: "Police are appealing for anyone who may have been approached and offered the car or who has any information whatsoever to please call police on 08452 777444 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111."

The value of the car is not known.
