The Chelsea football club security guard who suffered leg injuries after allegedly being struck by John Terry's car has said the under fire footballer was not to blame for the collision.
Deputy security manager Steve Rowley was reportedly hit by the former England captain's Range Rover as he cleared a scrum of photographers following Chelsea's defeat in the Champions League to Inter Milan on Tuesday.
Initial reports suggested that Mr Rowley had suffered a broken leg as a result of the collision but the crocked steward played down the claims, confirming that he had been left "badly bruised" but with no further injuries.
In a statement issued through Chelsea Football Club, Mr Rowley said: "It wasn't his fault at all, it was a complete accident."
The 29-year-old defender was apparently unaware of the collision until he arrived at his Oxshott home later that night.
Terry was breathalysed by officers from Surrey Police several hours later and was found to be within the legal alcohol limit.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said police were called at 11.13pm to Stamford Bridge, Fulham Road, to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
"The 4x4 car did not stop at the scene," he added. "Inquiries into the incident continue."
