Mr Whatley's car windows were smashed in by two police officers

A former businessman has reportedly received an out of court settlement worth more than £20,000 after police officers smashed his car windows in.

Robert Whatley, of Usk, Monmouthshire, did not pull over in his Range Rover despite being pursued by the two officers for 17 minutes.

The 73-year-old, who claimed for post-traumatic stress disorder, has already received more than £8,000 from Gwent Police after claiming for damage to his Range Rover.

The grandfather was later found guilty of not wearing a seat belt, failing to stop for a police officer and having illegally tinted car windows. He was fined a total of £235 and ordered to pay £300 towards prosecution costs at Caerphilly Magistrates' Court.

The two Gwent Police officers were cleared in a disciplinary hearing and the force has made no admission of liability, but it has offered to pay "all reasonable" costs for the legal action.
