Welsh rugby ace Andy Powell has been slapped with a 15-month driving ban after pleading guilty to being in control of a golf buggy while drunk.

Powell, who was dropped from the Wales rugby team after the incident, was arrested at a motorway service station on the M4 following a Six Nations clash with Scotland, which Wales won 31-24. He was taken into custody on February 14 with another man.

His lawyer Conrad Gadd told the court he had already admitted he had been "foolish", adding: "He is regretful that any young boy who may see him as a hero might think this behaviour is acceptable and he wants to make it plain that it isn't."

Powell was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victims surcharge in addition to the lengthy ban.
