Toyota has announced the recall of cars in the US, Europe and China over faulty accelerator pedals.
The company suspended sales in the US of the best-selling Camry along with seven other models in a bid to fix the sticky pedals of more than one million vehicles.
The move followed last week's recall of the same eight models in the US - which affected 2.3 million vehicles. The company said the vehicle's worn accelerator pedal mechanisms may "stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position".
Affected customers in Europe will be contacted directly by the company - which said the problem was rare and would not cause European production to stop. Different parts are now being used in models produced in Europe. Customers with concerns over the problem, which will make the pedal harder to depress, were advised to contact Toyota customer service.
The carmaker said: "Toyota is making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible."
