Minister treated after collision

Welsh Assembly Government minister Carl Sargeant and his driver were involved in a collision on the way to an engagement

A Welsh Assembly cabinet minister and his official driver escaped with minor injuries after the car they were in was involved in a collision.

Local Government Minister Carl Sargeant and the driver were both treated in hospital following the accident. Both received medical attention as a precaution after being in collision with another vehicle.

The minister was being driven to an engagement in Deeside when the incident happened in Corris, near Machynlleth. An Assembly Government spokesman said he could not reveal any further information about the incident.

In a statement, he said: "A government car carrying the Social Justice and Local Government Minister Carl Sargeant and his driver was involved in a collision with another vehicle earlier today near Corris, near Machynlleth. The minister was on his way to an engagement in Deeside.

"The minister and his driver were not seriously injured, however, they did receive some medical attention as a precaution," said the spokesman, adding that Mr Sargeant and the driver have left hospital.
