Vauxhall parent company GM is recalling 1.3 million cars in the US, Canada and Mexico over steering problems

General Motors (GM) has announced it is recalling 1.3 million vehicles in the US, Canada and Mexico to address a potential problem with power steering.

The car maker assured that the vehicles are safe and the steering will not fail, but said a faulty motor could mean a greater effort is required to steer when driving under 15mph.

Models recalled by GM, the parent company of Vauxhall, include 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalts and 2007-2010 Pontiac G5s sold in the US; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuits sold in Canada and 2005-2006 Pontiac G4s in Mexico.

Parts to replace the electric motor are being shipped to dealers and the company will notify customers when to take their cars for repair.
