Environmental activist Andy Pag has been released from a jail in India

Environmental activist Andy Pag, who was arrested in January for using an unlicensed satellite phone in India, has been released from jail.

According to his lawyer Prateek Kasliwal, the London-based campaigner has been freed by a court in Ajmer in the state of Rajasthan.

He faced a fine of 1000 rupees (£13.30) for breaking Indian wireless and telegraphy laws.

The lawyer said that his client, a dual Italian and British citizen, was ignorant about the rule that he required a permit to use a satellite phone in India.

Pag campaigns against using fossil fuels by travelling around the world in a biofuel-driven bus - which was converted to run on vegetable oil.

The eco-activist, who started his journey from London in September last year, was chronicling his journey in a blog.
