Beckham's pants 'not up to scratch'

16 March 2010
The British countryside is the most distracting thing on the road, a poll has found

The beautiful British countryside is more distracting to drivers than the famous Wonderbra adverts or David Beckham in his Armani underwear, a poll has found.

The study saw Beckham rated as less dangerous than attractive men and more dangerous than roadside graffiti.

While two-thirds of male drivers named the opposite sex as the greatest distraction, just 3% of women said they were easily distracted by handsome men.

A Zurich Connect spokesman said: "Surprisingly, the Yorkshire Dales beat David Beckham's pants hands down as roadside eye candy.

"We can only conclude that drivers passing through stunning landscapes need to be especially vigilant if they want to avoid becoming part of the scenery."

The top 10 distractions, in order from the most to least, were: attractive women; Stonehenge (and other heritage sites); the Yorkshire Dales (and other scenic views); flocks of birds; the Angel of the North (and other art installations); Ferraris and other supercars; shop window displays; attractive men; the David Beckham advert for Armani; and roadside graffiti.
