Bad weather blast over Britain

A spell of bad weather is on its way, according to forecasters

Motorists are being warned to get ready for a flurry of bad weather across Britain as a patch of cold weather will hit and even bring snow to some areas.

A severe 'yellow' weather warning has been issued by the Met Office and drivers should be cautious of ice especially on unsalted roads in Northern Ireland, Wales, northern England and Scotland.

Drivers should remember to prepare their car in case of a breakdown or emergency by having up-to-date cover.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces, especially in places affected by showers.

"The showers will fall as snow above about 250 metres, but there may be temporary slush deposits to lower levels. The public should be aware of possible travel disruption."

Wintry showers and hail are also forecast as temperatures will drop to around -5C on Friday evening.
