What should I carry in the car?

While most drivers setting out on their summer trips will have made sure the suntan lotion and sandwiches are packed, many drivers may forget to take items essential in a breakdown.

A priority for your car’s holiday checklist should be a first-aid kit to cope with any passenger problems en route along with a phone card or some small change for use in any emergency where a mobile phone wouldn’t be available.

To help prevent passengers from overheating, Green Flag recommends drivers keep a soft drink and a snack to hand. Some relaxing music to listen to can help take the stress out of traffic hold-ups and allow you to make the most of the day.

It is important that motorists and their passengers are prepared for busy journeys in summer weather. Even a simple measure, such as keeping plenty of activities in the car to keep the children occupied will help to make travelling much easier, and fun too - after all it is the holidays!
