Swot up on Euro driving rules
Whether you are planning to drive through France, or direct to Holland or Belgium, swot up on the country's laws before you go.
You should carry the following documents at all times in European countries:
- full driving licence
- motor insurance policy to cover your vehicle in Europe. You will need to tell your insurer the dates you plan to travel
- vehicle registration documents. If the car is not registered in your name, for example if it is a company car, you must obtain written permission from the owner authorising you to use it
- a valid GB sticker must also be displayed to prove your nationality
- European breakdown policy, available through Green Flag, with emergency contact telephone numbers
- A personal insurance policy to protect yourself and all other travellers in the car
- A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which can be used to cover any necessary medical treatment due to either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA).
