Your winter car survival kit
Be prepared while driving during winter by keeping a seasonal survival kit in your car. These are necessary in order to keep warm and content while waiting for assistance when broken down during winter.
Keep the kit in your car at all times and ensure it is always stocked in the event of an emergency. The following items can prove invaluable in the event of an emergency.
Cold weather gear - Always keep enough winter coats, blankets and gloves in your car to ensure that all passengers can remain warm.
Food - Non perishable food is a must for your emergency kit. Crackers, granola bars or even some sweets can help sustain your family in the event of a breakdown or emergency.
Light - The days are shorter in the winter months, making a flashlight and 'strike anywhere' matches and candles crucial. A candle and an empty coffee tin can also be used to melt snow. Also be sure to pack extra batteries for the flashlight.
Tools - Tyre chains, jump leads and a shovel can come in handy, especially during a breakdown in snow covered or muddy conditions. Only attempt fixing your vehicle if you have broken down in a safe place and know how to perform necessary repairs. Don't leave your vehicle unless it cannot be avoided when broken down.
Be prepared for winter driving and ensure you have adequate breakdown cover before taking to the roads this season. Contact Green Flag today for a free quote.
